THE OPEN-PREM
INFLECTION POINT V2
When Open-Source LLMs and Hardware Economics Converge
This is the second version of the Open-Prem Inflection Point framework, updated to reflect the rapid acceleration of open-source AI models and enterprise hardware platforms. Since the original paper was published, releases from DeepSeek, Meta, Alibaba, and Mistral have compressed the timeline for open-source parity with proprietary systems. New GPU architectures from NVIDIA and AMD have shifted the infrastructure cost equation. And the emergence of agentic AI, where autonomous systems run continuously and process sensitive data, has created new arguments for on-premises deployment that did not exist when the original paper was written
WHAT CHANGED IN V2
-
Incorporates benchmark data from DeepSeek V3, GLM-4, Llama 4, Qwen3, and Mistral 3.
-
Updates hardware cost analysis for NVIDIA Blackwell and AMD MI350 platforms.
-
Adds agentic AI architectures as a new variable in the on-premises deployment case.
-
Recalculates the inflection point timeline based on current market data.
